The Internal Complaints Committee of Meenakshi College of Nursing conducted an Awareness Programme on Women and Child Development on July 30, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The event began with a soulful invocation by the college choir, setting a serene and reflective tone for the day.
Ms. Sailaja, B.Sc. Nursing II Year student, delivered the welcome address, followed by an inspiring keynote address by Dr. Fabiola M. Dhanaraj, Principal, MCON. Dr. Fabiola highlighted the importance of initiatives like One Stop Centres in supporting women affected by violence and emphasized the broader significance of women and child development in society.
The guest speaker, Mrs. Jothilakshmi, Inspector of Police, Mangadu, Chennai, delivered an insightful and empowering session. She educated students on critical support systems, including One Stop Centres (OSC), the Women Helpline (181), and the Child Helpline (1098). She also facilitated discussions on psychosocial counselling and gender-based violence, sharing informative videos and valuable insights about the role and function of Internal Complaints Committees.
A total of 97 students and 12 faculty members participated in the session, which was highly interactive and engaging. Students actively took part in discussions and clarified their doubts, gaining a deeper understanding of the support systems available for women and children.
The programme concluded with the National Anthem, reinforcing a collective commitment to awareness, empowerment, and advocacy for social well-being.
