Meenakshi College of Nursing Observes UGC Initiative “Ageing with Dignity”

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, under the guidance of the UGC, promoted the special initiative “Ageing with Dignity.” In line with this, a program was organized on 16th September 2025 at the MCON Conference Hall between 3.00 PM and 3.45 PM.

The event commenced with a soulful invocation by the college choir, setting a serene and reflective tone. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Sandhra T., B.Sc. (N) II Year, followed by the coordination of proceedings by Mrs. E. Bhuvaneswari, Professor, MCON.

Dr. Fabiola M. Dhanaraj, Principal, MCON, delivered the keynote address, explaining the significance of the UGC initiative and emphasizing the need to instill respect, care, and responsibility toward the elderly. She elaborated on ten key aspects of ageing with dignity, focusing on strengthening intergenerational bonds. Dr. B. Jayabharathi B., Vice-Principal, MCON, delivered the special address, highlighting compassion, respectful care, and the rights of senior citizens.

A pledge-taking session, led by Dr. Fabiola M. Dhanaraj, was observed by all faculty, students, and non-teaching staff, reaffirming their commitment to the cause. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Ezhilarasi D., B.Sc. (N) II Year. The program concluded with the National Anthem at 3.45 PM, leaving the audience enriched with the values of dignity and respect for senior citizens.
