Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy (MCOT) organized an outreach camp to mark the observance of World Cerebral Palsy Day on 6th October 2025 at Rotary Hospital (Cerebral Palsy Unit), Ambattur. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about cerebral palsy, conduct screening, and provide support services for children with various developmental challenges.
The camp was organized under the guidance of Prof. Deepa Sundareswaran, Principal, and Ms. Aarthi A, Assistant Professor, Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy. Students from MOT I Year and BOT III Year actively participated, gaining invaluable clinical exposure through assessment, clinical reasoning, and community engagement.
During the camp, the team assessed 27 children, including those diagnosed with cerebral palsy, congenital heart disease, encephalopathy with meningitis, global developmental delay, hydrocephalus, Down syndrome, and autism spectrum disorder. The outreach program emphasized early identification of developmental delays, parental education, and recommendations for Occupational Therapy interventions to improve functional outcomes and quality of life.
Participants also had the opportunity to observe aquatic therapy, spider cage therapy, and the use of adaptive and assistive devices, enhancing their understanding of evidence-based therapeutic approaches.
The program concluded on a successful note, reaffirming MCOT’s commitment to community service, early intervention, and holistic rehabilitation for children with special needs.
