Meenakshi College of Nursing Launches Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0 to Promote a Smoke-Free Generation

Meenakshi College of Nursing actively implemented the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 3.0 (TFYC 3.0) from 10 December to 17 December 2025, aligning with the national initiative launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 9 October 2025. The campaign was designed to educate, engage, and empower students to prevent the initiation of tobacco use, support individuals who wish to quit, and foster a strong culture of health and wellness within academic institutions.

As part of this week-long observance, a series of impactful awareness activities were conducted to highlight the harmful effects of tobacco on health and to reinforce positive lifestyle choices among students. Counselling sessions were organized by the Department of Mental Health to address tobacco-related behavioural concerns and to provide guidance and emotional support to students. Creative expression was encouraged through poster competitions on the theme “Impact of Tobacco Usage on Health,” with the displayed entries evaluated by the Principal and senior faculty members, and prizes awarded to outstanding contributions. Slogan writing competitions on the theme “Benefits of Quitting Smoking” further engaged students in spreading strong anti-tobacco messages, nurturing awareness through creativity and reflection.

In addition to educational and creative initiatives, students actively participated in an enforcement drive to promote a tobacco-free environment by forming a human chain with the message “Say No to Tobacco.” This was followed by a public awareness rally conducted from Leelavathy Nagar to Chikkarayapuram, during which students interacted with the general public and sensitized them to the ill effects of tobacco usage. The campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from 182 students and 12 faculty members, all of whom benefited from the diverse and interactive activities conducted during the observance.

The campaign served as a strong platform to inspire collective responsibility, encourage healthy choices, and reinforce the importance of sustained public awareness in building a tobacco-free future.
