The Department of Periodontics, Meenakshi Ammal Dental College & Hospital, Chennai, successfully conducted a Guest Lecture and Interactive Workshop titled “Strategies of Research to Identify Genetic Risk Factors and their Impact on Disease Onset and Progression” on 7th January 2026 at Lecture Hall 5. The academic programme commenced at 9:15 a.m. and witnessed active and enthusiastic participation from faculty members and postgraduate students.
The programme was led by Dr. Jaideep Mahendra, Professor and Head, Department of Periodontics, who emphasized the significance of integrating advanced genetic research methodologies into periodontal science. The keynote session was delivered by Dr. rer. nat. Avneesh Chopra, Senior Scientist in Dental Research, Berlin, Germany, who provided an in-depth and insightful overview of contemporary research strategies for identifying genetic risk factors and understanding their role in disease onset and progression. His lecture effectively bridged fundamental research concepts with clinical relevance, sparking keen interest among the participants.
