Meenakshi College of Arts and Science Observes World No Tobacco Day 2026

Meenakshi College of Arts and Science (MCAS), MAHER, observed World No Tobacco Day 2026 on 1st June 2026 by organizing a Pledge-Taking Programme to create awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine use and to promote a healthier, tobacco-free lifestyle.

The observance was conducted in line with the 2026 theme, “Unmasking the Appeal – Countering Nicotine and Tobacco Addiction,” which emphasizes the need to expose the tactics employed by the tobacco and nicotine industries and encourage informed choices among individuals, particularly the younger generation.

Faculty members actively participated in the programme and took a pledge against the use of tobacco and nicotine products. Through this pledge, they reaffirmed their commitment to abstaining from all forms of tobacco consumption and to advocating a tobacco-free lifestyle within the campus and the wider community.

The programme served as an important platform to educate and sensitize participants about the adverse health, social, and economic consequences of tobacco use. It also highlighted the significance of collective efforts in preventing tobacco-related diseases and promoting public health awareness.

The initiative strengthened awareness regarding the dangers of tobacco and nicotine addiction while reinforcing the commitment of the institution towards fostering a healthy, safe, and tobacco-free environment. The programme was coordinated by Dr. R. Shanthi, UGC Activities Coordinator, MCAS, and Mrs. S. Malarvizhi, UGC MAHER Campus Coordinator.
