Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute (MMCHRI) observed World Environment Day 2026 on 5th June 2026 at the Lister Hall, 250 Block. The programme was jointly organized by the NSS Unit and ISO Committee of MMCHRI in alignment with the principles of LiFE – Lifestyle for Environment, promoting environmental responsibility and sustainable living practices.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. S. Saravana Kumar, ISO Coordinator. This was followed by an awareness talk on “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – The Key to Sustainability” delivered by Prof. Dr. K. V. Rajasekhar, Dean, MMCHRI. The session highlighted the importance of responsible environmental behaviour, sustainable resource utilization, and the collective role of individuals in protecting and preserving the environment.
The World Environment Day pledge was administered by Dr. K. Boopathi, Medical Superintendent, encouraging participants to adopt eco-friendly practices and contribute towards environmental conservation. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sakthivel M., NSS Coordinator.
As part of the observance, an awareness rally was inaugurated by Dr. C. Mahendran, RMO. The rally aimed to promote environmental consciousness and encourage sustainable practices among the public. Pamphlets on waste segregation were distributed under the guidance of Dr. K. Shankar, Professor and Head, Department of Community Medicine, creating awareness about proper waste management and the importance of segregation at source.
The programme successfully reinforced the significance of environmental stewardship and inspired participants to adopt sustainable lifestyles, contributing towards a cleaner, greener, and healthier future.
