Meenakshi College of Nursing (MCON), Mangadu, in collaboration with the Faculty of Yoga Science and Therapy, MAHER, celebrated International Day of Yoga 2026 on 20th June 2026 at the MCON Auditorium from 10.00 AM to 11.30 AM. The programme was organized with the objective of promoting awareness about the importance of yoga in achieving physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”
The event commenced with a soulful invocation by the college choir, creating a serene and positive atmosphere. The Welcome Address was delivered by Ms. Gladia Padmavathy S., B.Sc. Nursing II Year student, who warmly welcomed the gathering. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. E. Bhuvaneswari, Professor, MCON.
The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. J. Anitha, Professor, MCON, who highlighted the significance of yoga in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and emphasized its role in promoting physical fitness, mental clarity, and overall well-being.
The scientific session began with an introduction to the significance of International Day of Yoga by Ms. Suganya Rajinikanth and Mrs. K. Muthulakshmi, Ph.D. Scholars, Yoga Therapy, MAHER, along with their team. The resource persons conducted warm-up exercises and guided participants through a series of sitting and standing yogasanas. The benefits and importance of each posture were explained simultaneously, enabling participants to understand their practical applications in daily life.
Faculty members, staff, and students actively participated in the session and were educated on the importance of yoga in maintaining harmony between the body and mind. The resource persons emphasized the role of yoga in promoting healthy ageing, stress management, concentration, flexibility, and overall wellness. Students also shared their views on the importance of yoga, demonstrated various yoga postures, and expressed their commitment to incorporating yoga into their daily routines.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Jophil J. J., B.Sc. Nursing II Year student, who expressed gratitude to the management, resource persons, faculty members, students, and organizers for their contributions to the success of the event. The celebration concluded with the National Anthem.
A total of 147 students and 13 faculty members participated in the programme. Organized under the leadership of Dr. Fabiola M. Dhanaraj, Principal, Meenakshi College of Nursing, the event successfully promoted awareness about the benefits of yoga and inspired participants to embrace yoga as a way of life for achieving holistic health and well-being.
