The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Meenakshi College of Nursing (MCON), MAHER, observed the “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” campaign by organizing a mass pledge-taking ceremony on 10th August 2026. The initiative aimed to mobilize youth against substance abuse and promote the national vision of a drug-free and developed India by 2047.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Gloria Bakkiyavathy, Final Year B.Sc. Nursing student, followed by a keynote address by Dr. Fabiola M. In her address, she highlighted the detrimental effects of substance abuse on cognitive abilities, physical health, personal aspirations, and the overall well-being of young people. She emphasized the importance of sports, physical fitness, mental wellness, and active community engagement as healthy and constructive alternatives to substance use.

The official Nasha Mukt pledge was subsequently administered to the participants, reaffirming their commitment to staying away from substance abuse and contributing towards a healthier society. To strengthen their commitment through digital participation, the volunteers also took the official e-pledge through the MY Bharat Portal.

A total of 108 students participated in the ceremony. The programme concluded with the National Anthem and successfully reinforced awareness of the physical, mental, and social consequences of addiction while encouraging young people to embrace healthy and responsible lifestyles.
