Meenakshi College of Nursing Observes Breastfeeding Week with Awareness Programme at Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital

Meenakshi College of Nursing (MCON), in collaboration with Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, observed Breastfeeding Week on 1st August 2026 at the KMCH Auditorium. The programme was conducted under the theme “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works” and aimed to promote awareness about effective breastfeeding practices and their benefits for both mothers and infants.

B.Sc. Nursing III Year students actively participated in the programme, which focused on key aspects of breastfeeding, including skilled feeding counselling, the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), national mass media campaigns, breastfeeding techniques, and the health benefits of breastfeeding for mothers and babies.

As part of the programme, students from MCON and Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital collaboratively presented a skit highlighting the benefits of breastfeeding, making the awareness session engaging and informative for the audience.

The programme was attended by 60 students, 5 faculty members, and 15 internship doctors, while 28 postnatal mothers benefited from the awareness and educational activities. The collaborative initiative provided an effective platform for strengthening breastfeeding awareness and promoting informed practices among healthcare professionals, students, and mothers.
