Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER), Chennai, celebrated the 80th Independence Day on 15th August 2026 with great patriotic fervour and enthusiasm. The celebration brought together faculty members, students, and staff in a spirit of unity and national pride.
The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag, followed by the National Anthem. The Vice-Chancellor, MAHER, delivered the Independence Day address, highlighting the significance of the occasion and inspiring students to uphold the values of discipline, integrity, patriotism, and social responsibility. The address also emphasised the important role of young citizens in contributing meaningfully to the nation’s progress and development.
The celebrations were further enriched by vibrant student cultural performances. A patriotic dance performance reflected the spirit of the nation, while an energetic Silambattam performance showcased India’s rich traditional heritage and the students’ skill and enthusiasm. The performances added colour and vibrancy to the celebrations and fostered a strong sense of pride in the country’s cultural traditions.
The programme also featured the distribution of prizes to the winners of the Independence Day competitions, recognizing their talent, creativity, enthusiasm, and active participation in the various competitions organized as part of the celebrations.
The Independence Day celebration provided a memorable occasion for the MAHER community to come together and commemorate the nation’s freedom while celebrating the talents and achievements of its students. The event reinforced the values of patriotism, cultural heritage, discipline, unity, and responsible citizenship.
