As part of the Velammal CBSE Cluster Football Meet 2026, a total of 36 students from Meenakshi College of Physiotherapy (MCPT), including MPT Sports, Orthopaedics, Neurology, Cardio, and BPT second- and final-year students, volunteered as on-field sports physiotherapists at Velammal Vidhyashram, Surapet Campus, Chennai, from 11–16 September 2026, in collaboration with Velammal Global Hospital, Poonamallee.
The six-day tournament provided an excellent platform for the MCPT physiotherapy team to deliver continuous on-field sports injury care to participating student athletes. The volunteers actively assisted with immediate injury assessment, sports taping, first aid, management of muscle cramps, ligament sprains and soft tissue injuries, as well as post-match recovery support, while working alongside the event’s medical team.
The programme offered valuable hands-on exposure to real-time sports physiotherapy practice, enabling students to strengthen their clinical decision-making, emergency response, teamwork, communication, and athlete-care skills. The experience further enhanced their confidence in managing sports-related injuries in dynamic competitive settings.
