The Department of Periodontics, Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospital, in collaboration with the Indian Society of Periodontology, celebrated Oral Hygiene Day 2025 with a host of vibrant awareness and educational activities aimed at promoting oral health among students, patients, and the general public.
The day began with an oral hygiene awareness quiz competition for undergraduate students, designed to deepen their understanding of preventive oral care practices. In parallel, a public awareness rally was organized, with students and faculty actively engaging with the community, carrying placards, and spreading the message about the crucial connection between oral hygiene and systemic health.
An insightful lecture on the impact of smoking on periodontal health was conducted, followed by an interactive awareness session for patients, emphasizing the importance of oral care in daily life. The sessions sparked meaningful conversations, promoting informed self-care and early intervention.
Adding an environmental touch to the occasion, a sapling plantation drive was held by the department, symbolizing the growth of both oral and environmental health consciousness.
A Pledge Wall was also set up, encouraging patients to make a personal commitment to improved oral hygiene. To reinforce these efforts, oral hygiene kits—including toothpaste and toothbrushes generously provided by the Indian Society of Periodontology—were distributed to patients.
The event was marked by enthusiastic participation, impactful outreach, and a strong message: Good oral hygiene is not only essential for a healthy smile but also for overall well-being.
