MADCH Observes World Environment Day with Awareness Lecture on “Plastic Paradox in Dentistry”

To mark World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, the One-time Use & Throwaway Plastic Avoidance Committee at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Hospital (MADCH) organized an engaging awareness lecture titled “Plastic Paradox in Dentistry” for undergraduate students.

The session was delivered by Dr. Protyusha Guha Biswas, Associate Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology & Microbiology, who highlighted the growing concern over the use of single-use plastics in dental practice. She addressed the complex balance between maintaining clinical hygiene and adopting environmentally sustainable practices in dentistry.

The lecture encouraged students to critically examine current practices and explore viable alternatives to reduce their ecological footprint without compromising patient care. The lecture concluded with an interactive discussion, reflecting the students’ enthusiasm and awareness toward sustainability in healthcare.

The event served as a timely reminder of the crucial role healthcare professionals play in shaping a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
