Mastering Rotary Endodontics and Digital Design – USIM Dental Boot Camp –  Day 4

On Wednesday, 21st  May 2025, Day 4 of the USIM Dental Boot Camp offered participants a compelling exploration into both clinical precision and technological innovation in dentistry. Representing MAHER, Dr. R. Anitha, Deputy Registrar,  Administration, accompanied six dedicated dental students—Aashiv Prakash, Bhavishya Prabhu, Ranjana Nataraj, Rajalakshmi Janakiraman, Sharon Jessica, and Harshad Balaji—on this enriching academic journey.

The day began with a Rotary Endodontic workshop held in the Pre-clinical lab, led by Dr. Siti Hajar Omar. In this hands-on session, Dr. Omar explained the principles and practical applications of rotary instrumentation in endodontic procedures, using advanced 3D printed resin models. The students then practiced performing root canal treatments with rotary tools, strengthening their technique and clinical confidence in a simulated environment.

Following a productive morning, the post-lunch session introduced participants to the rapidly evolving world of digital dentistry. Dr. Nazrin Sarajudin provided an insightful briefing on 3D printing, CAD-CAM technologies, and the role of intraoral and extraoral scanning in modern dental workflows. The highlight of the afternoon was a live demonstration by Amin Azahari, who showcased the Nextdent 3D printing unit for complete dentures and walked students through the use of dental design software. Students were given the opportunity to explore the digital interface themselves, experimenting with various design features and gaining hands-on experience with software used in real-world dental labs. As a meaningful token of the day’s learning, each participant received a personalized souvenir produced using the same 3D printing technology they had just studied.

Day 4 stood out as a perfect blend of foundational skills and futuristic insights, reflecting the boot camp’s goal of preparing students for the next generation of dentistry.
