MCOT Organizes Anti-Drug Awareness Rally on International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026

Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER), under the visionary leadership of Chancellor Mrs. Jayanthi Radhakrishnan, the patronage of Mrs. Gomathy R., Pro Chancellor Mr. Akash Prabhakar, and the guidance of the University officials, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a drug-free society by organizing a Students’ Awareness Rally on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The rally was organized by Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy (MCOT) in association with the NSS Unit of MAHER on 27th June 2026, from 6.00 a.m. to 7.30 a.m., at Elliot’s Beach, Chennai. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Deepa Sundareswaran, Principal, MCOT.

The rally was flagged off by the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Shri Deepak Kaushik, Superintendent, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Chennai Zonal Unit, Government of India. Addressing the participants, he emphasized the significance of observing the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, highlighted the harmful consequences of substance abuse, and encouraged young people to play an active role in building a drug-free society through awareness, responsibility, and informed choices.

Around 250 students and faculty members from the constituent colleges of MAHER enthusiastically participated in the rally. Carrying awareness placards, raising anti-drug slogans, and distributing informative pamphlets on the myths and facts surrounding drug abuse, the participants effectively conveyed the message of prevention and the importance of leading a healthy, drug-free life.
