Meenakshi College of Physiotherapy observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on 27th June 2026 at Besant Nagar Beach, Chennai, with the active participation of 100 students, faculty members, and NSS volunteers. The programme was organized to create awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage young people to promote a healthy, drug-free society.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Address, followed by an informative session delivered by the Chief Guest, Mr. Deepak Kaushik, Superintendent, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). In his address, he explained the physical, psychological, and social consequences of substance abuse, highlighted the legal implications of drug-related offences, and emphasized the crucial role of students and educational institutions in preventing drug abuse and fostering responsible citizenship.
An Anti-Drug Pledge was subsequently administered to all the participants, reaffirming their commitment to leading a drug-free life and spreading awareness within their communities.
As part of the observance, a Drug Awareness Rally was conducted along Besant Nagar Beach. Carrying awareness placards and displaying anti-drug messages, the participants actively engaged with the public, promoting the importance of staying away from drugs and supporting initiatives aimed at creating a drug-free society.
Following the rally, an interactive Question-and-Answer Session provided students with an opportunity to interact directly with the Chief Guest. Participants enthusiastically raised questions on drug abuse prevention, legal awareness, and the initiatives undertaken by the Narcotics Control Bureau, making the session both informative and engaging.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, the college authorities, faculty members, and all the participants for their enthusiastic support and active involvement.
