Meenakshi Ammal Dental College & Hospital Empowers Nursing Students through Hands-on Microbiology Training

The Department of Microbiology at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College & Hospital organized a one-day intensive training programme on Microbiological Techniques for 54 third-semester B.Sc. Nursing students from Omayal Achi College of Nursing, along with their faculty members, on 18th March 2026.

The programme was thoughtfully designed to provide practical exposure to key microbiological procedures integral to nursing practice. The sessions covered essential techniques such as staining methods, specimen analysis, culture procedures, infection control practices, biomedical waste management, and the handling of laboratory equipment.

To ensure effective learning, students were divided into smaller groups and rotated across various laboratory sections. Each group actively engaged in hands-on demonstrations and interactive sessions conducted by subject experts, enabling them to gain real-time experience and clarity in concepts.

A highlight of the programme was the visit to the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), where participants gained valuable insights into sterilization protocols, disinfection methods, and infection control measures followed in clinical settings.

The programme concluded with a short assessment and feedback session, which reflected enthusiastic participation and positive learning outcomes among the students. The initiative successfully fostered interdisciplinary learning and strengthened collaborative engagement among future healthcare professionals.
