MMCHRI Celebrates World Blood Donor Day 2026 with Awareness and Donor Recognition Programme

The Department of Blood Centre, Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute (MMCHRI), organized the World Blood Donor Day Celebration 2026 on 12th June 2026 near the Casualty Hospital Block, MMCHRI, under the theme “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.” The programme was conducted to recognize voluntary blood donors and create awareness about the importance of regular blood donation in saving lives.

The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Ravindran K. R. R., Blood Bank Medical Officer, who emphasized the significance of voluntary blood donation and expressed gratitude to all donors for their selfless contribution to society.

The programme was formally inaugurated, followed by the distribution of appreciation tokens to voluntary blood donors in recognition of their valuable service and commitment to supporting patient care through blood donation.

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Dr. K. V. Rajasekhar, Dean, MMCHRI, who highlighted the crucial role of voluntary blood donors in ensuring an adequate and safe blood supply. He encouraged students, staff, and the public to actively participate in blood donation drives and contribute towards saving lives.

As part of the awareness activities, the Blood Centre staff and students from the Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) programme presented an informative skit that effectively conveyed the importance of blood donation and its life-saving impact. The performance engaged the audience and reinforced the message of social responsibility and humanitarian service.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Ravindran K. R. R., Blood Bank Medical Officer, expressing appreciation to the dignitaries, organizers, donors, students, and participants for their support in making the event a success.

The celebration successfully promoted awareness about voluntary blood donation, recognized the invaluable contributions of blood donors, and inspired participants to become active contributors to this noble cause. The event also strengthened the spirit of community service and reinforced the importance of donating blood to save lives and support healthcare needs.
