International Yoga Day 2024 was celebrated on June 21st, at Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (Deemed to be university) West KK Nagar, Chennai. The festival started with a yoga practice at basketball ground in the university campus at 7 am in which more than hundred students participated to create awareness about the practice of yoga for a healthy body and mind, the next highlight event was the attempt by M. Rajesh, a second year student of M.Sc. Yoga Therapy, and S. Priyadarshini, a second year student of M.Sc. Yoga of the Faculty of yoga science and therapy, holds the yoga posture of ‘salamba sirsasana konasana’ and ‘prasarita pada uttanasana’ respectively for the longest duration. M. Rajesh held the posture for 12 minutes and 1 second and S. Priyadarshini held the posture for 50 minutes and 51 seconds respectively and entered the “India Book of Records”. S. Priyadarshini already holds a record of holding ‘ Raja kapotasana’ for the longest duration of 60 minutes in the year 2022. With the blessings of the founder Chancellor Late Hon. A.N. Radhakrishnan,Mrs. Gomati Radhakrishnan Interim Chancellor and Mrs. Jayanthi Radhakrishnan Pro Vice Chancellor, the event was started with an inaugural address by Prof. Dr. R.S. Neelakandan Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. C. Krithika, Pro Vice Chancellor delivered the special address. Dr. V. Subbulakshmi, principal Faculty of Yoga Science and Therapy delivered the welcome address. Renowned yoga therapist and consultant Dr. N. Chandrasekaran was the chief guest of the day. Mr. Vivek R Nair, from India Book of Records was the Adjudicator of the record breaking attempts who officially declared the achievement and felicitated the achievers with the medal.
