World Autism Awareness Day Celebrated by the Faculty of Occupational Therapy, MAHER

On 2nd April, 2025, the Faculty of Occupational Therapy, MAHER marked World Autism Awareness Day with an engaging and informative celebration from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM. The event saw the active participation of 45 students and 3 faculty members, united in raising awareness about autism and promoting a deeper understanding of neurodiversity.
World Autism Awareness Day, observed globally, aims to advocate for the rights, dignity, and well-being of individuals on the autism spectrum. This year’s theme, “Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”, emphasized the intersection of neurodiversity and global sustainability efforts. It highlighted how inclusive practices and policies can bring about meaningful change for autistic individuals while contributing to the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
The event began with a display of hand-made posters crafted by the second-year Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) students. These creative and thought-provoking posters served as powerful visual representations of the importance of fostering an inclusive society where individuals with autism can thrive. The celebration offered an opportunity for attendees to reflect on how neurodiverse individuals contribute to a richer, more diverse world.
