On June 3, 2025, the Meenakshi College of Nursing (MCON), MAHER, celebrated World Bicycle Day with the theme “Cycling for a Sustainable Future,” emphasizing the importance of physical health, environmental awareness, and sustainable living. Organized by the Sports and Games Cell Committee, the event took place from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM and saw the active participation of 50 students and 7 faculty members.
The celebration began with an address by Dr. Fabiola M. Dhanaraj, Principal of MCON, who spoke on the significance of World Bicycle Day. She highlighted how cycling can contribute to healthier communities and a cleaner environment, encouraging students and faculty to adopt more sustainable practices in their daily lives.
A highlight of the event was the slow cycle race, a unique and engaging activity designed to promote balance, coordination, and physical fitness. Participants were challenged to ride their bicycles as slowly as possible without placing their feet on the ground, with the last rider to cross the finish line without losing balance being declared the winner. Mr. Jophil J J of B.Sc Nursing I Year secured first place, followed by Mr. Abhijit in second place and Mr. Nitturu Puneet in third place, both also from B.Sc Nursing I Year.
The event successfully educated students on the benefits of cycling and inspired them to incorporate it into their everyday routines.
