AMCON Observes “10th Year Swachhata Pakhwada” with Cleanliness and Community Initiatives

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, under the guidance of the UGC, promoted the observance of the 10th Year of “Swachhata Pakhwada” (Cleanliness Fortnight), which was organized by Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing (AMCON) on 1st September 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Multipurpose Hall.

The event began with the rendition of Tamizh Thaai Vaazhthu, followed by a warm welcome address by Ms. Johnsi Inbakumari, Nursing Tutor. Dr. S. Victor Devasirvadam, Ph.D. (N), D.Sc. (N), Principal, AMCON, unfolded the theme of the day, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and its impact on health and community well-being.

A seminar on “Awareness Regarding Green Environment” was conducted by Mrs. S. Uma, M.Sc. (N), MSW, M.A. (Sociology), Associate Professor, who elaborated on the significance of maintaining hygiene and promoting sustainable environmental practices. Following the seminar, all teaching, non-teaching faculty, and students took a Cleanliness Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The program concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Deva Grace, B.Sc. (N) II Year, followed by the National Anthem. In continuation of the observance, Mr. Dinesh Kumar, M.Sc. (N), Assistant Professor, led a Cleanliness Rally at Enathur, Kanchipuram, to spread public awareness on hygiene and sanitation. A live demonstration of the WHO-recommended handwashing techniques was also conducted for patients and visitors at MMCHRI, promoting practical hygiene practices.

Under the Swachhata Pakhwada theme, an outreach programme was organized in Pallavarmedu, where Ms. Sunitha, M.Sc. (N), Nursing Tutor, delivered an enlightening session on personal hygiene, environmental cleanliness, and nutrition. A hands-on cleaning drive followed, involving students and volunteers in clearing public and residential spaces.

A total of 300 students and members of the public benefited from the initiative. The event truly reflected the spirit of Swachhata Pakhwada by fostering awareness, action, and responsibility towards a cleaner, greener, and healthier society.
