The Research and Development Committee of Meenakshi College of Pharmacy organized a One-Day Workshop on “Design and Assessment of Effervescent Tablets” on 20th November 2025 at Room 014, Ground Floor, MCOP, Chennai. The workshop was designed to provide first-year B.Pharm students with essential exposure to formulation science, manufacturing processes, and validation techniques involved in developing effervescent tablet dosage forms.
The program began at 10:00 AM with a short inaugural session in the presence of Principal Dr. D. Chamundeeswari, whose motivational address emphasized the importance of experiential learning and the need for strong foundational research skills in pharmaceutical education.
Faculty members from the Department of Pharmaceutics led the technical sessions for the day. The morning session introduced students to the principles of effervescent tablet formulation, covering excipient selection, mechanisms of effervescence, manufacturing steps, and critical quality attributes. Participants also received guidance on laboratory practices and safety procedures essential for handling formulation components.
The afternoon session featured detailed demonstrations on granules preparation, followed by an overview of key validation parameters such as weight variation, friability, disintegration, and dissolution – important indicators of effervescent tablet performance. Students closely observed the procedures, documented findings, and engaged in discussions that deepened their practical understanding of formulation techniques.
A total of 49 first-year B.Pharm students took part in the workshop with great enthusiasm. Their active participation contributed to a dynamic learning environment that fostered scientific curiosity and confidence in hands-on pharmaceutics.
The workshop concluded with a feedback session and closing remarks from the organizing team. Students expressed that the experience enhanced their grasp of dosage form design and encouraged further involvement in laboratory-based learning.
