Meenakshi College of Pharmacy celebrated the traditional harvest festival of Pongal with great enthusiasm and cultural vibrancy on 13th January 2026, fostering a strong sense of unity, tradition, and joyful participation among students and staff. The campus came alive with festive decorations, colourful rangoli designs, and an atmosphere that beautifully reflected the essence of Tamil heritage.
The celebration commenced with the morning session, during which students actively participated in a Rangoli Competition, creatively expressing their artistic skills and cultural sensibilities. This was followed by a melodious welcome song that set an auspicious and cheerful tone for the day. The inaugural address was delivered by the Principal, who highlighted the cultural and agrarian significance of Pongal and encouraged students to preserve and celebrate traditional festivals as part of their social and cultural identity.
A major highlight of the celebration was the Pongal preparation and ritual observance, symbolizing prosperity, gratitude to nature, and communal harmony. Students and faculty members enthusiastically took part in the traditional Pongal cooking, adding warmth and meaning to the occasion. The programme was further enriched by an elegant dance performance by first-year students, which added grace and festive charm to the event.
The post-lunch session featured a series of traditional and fun-filled games including sugarcane breaking, musical chair, kabaddi, tug of war, and uriadi. These activities generated excitement across the campus, encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, and lively interaction among participants. The joyous atmosphere was marked by laughter, applause, and shared moments of celebration.
The Pongal celebration served as a memorable occasion that successfully blended cultural values, tradition, and collective joy, leaving participants with a deeper appreciation for heritage and togetherness.
