Meenakshi College of Pharmacy Conducts World Cancer Day 2026 Awareness Programme at Thandalam Village

Meenakshi College of Pharmacy, under the aegis of Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education & Research (Deemed to be University), organized a World Cancer Day – 2026 Awareness Programme on 4th February 2026 at Thandalam Village, embracing the theme “Raising Awareness about Cancer – Voice of Pharmacists.” The initiative aimed to educate the public on cancer risk factors, preventive strategies, early detection, and the vital role pharmacists play in community health promotion.

The programme was graced by Thiru T. E. Sasi Kumar, Head, Village Panchayat, Thandalam, as the Chief Guest. Mr. S. Velayutham, Vice President, along with Council Members, attended as Special Invitees. The event commenced with Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by a welcome address delivered by the Principal. An introductory speech by Mr. Sreenath, PRO, Meenakshi College of Pharmacy, set the tone for the programme, after which the Chief Guest was felicitated.

In his address, Thiru T. E. Sasi Kumar emphasized the importance of awareness, early identification of risk factors, and collective efforts in reducing the burden of cancer in the community. He also shared insights regarding cancer cases within Thandalam Village, underlining the need for preventive healthcare measures. Dr. K. Sundari delivered an enlightening session on the various types of cancer, mechanisms of spread, available screening modalities, and preventive interventions, empowering the audience with essential knowledge.

As a gesture of appreciation, the Village Panchayat Office Members felicitated the College Principal, PRO, and Heads of Departments. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Soundarya, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacognosy, followed by the National Anthem.

Subsequently, the Village Panchayat President of Thandalam flagged off an awareness rally in which students and faculty enthusiastically participated. The rally progressed through the village with participants raising awareness slogans and interacting with residents, reinforcing the message of early detection, prevention, and community responsibility.

The programme made a significant impact by fostering awareness, encouraging proactive health-seeking behaviour, and highlighting the critical role of collective action in the fight against cancer.
