The Medical Education Unit (MEU), Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute (MMCHRI) successfully conducted the Basic Course in Medical Education (BCME) from 7th to 9th July 2026. The three-day faculty development programme was organized in accordance with the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines to enhance the educational competencies of medical faculty and promote excellence in medical education.
The programme covered a wide range of essential topics, including Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME), principles of learning, teaching-learning methods, assessment strategies, AETCOM (Attitude, Ethics and Communication), Self-Directed Learning (SDL), clinical skills teaching, lesson planning, mentoring, and academic networking. The sessions were designed to equip faculty members with contemporary educational practices and learner-centered teaching approaches.
Participants actively engaged in interactive lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on learning activities, enabling them to apply educational concepts to real-world teaching scenarios. Special emphasis was placed on developing measurable learning objectives, aligning instructional methods with competencies, designing effective assessment tools, and implementing workplace-based assessment strategies.
The programme also highlighted the importance of curriculum planning, faculty development, and continuous professional growth, reinforcing the role of medical educators in delivering high-quality, competency-based healthcare education.
