The World Physiotherapy Asia Western Pacific (WPAWP) Regional Conference 2026 was held on 26 and 27 September 2026 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, bringing together more than 10,000 physiotherapy professionals from across the region. The conference featured distinguished participation from national and international leaders and provided a prominent platform for advancing physiotherapy education, clinical practice, and research.
Dr. Sugasri Sureshkumar, Professor and Head, Department of Physiotherapy in Neurosciences, Meenakshi College of Physiotherapy, was honoured with the Distinguished Service Award by Mike Landry, President, World Physiotherapy, in recognition of her remarkable contributions to the profession.
The Department of Physiotherapy in Neurosciences also received an Institutional Award under the C3 Specialised Neuro Category for excellence in Neurological Restoration and Functional Recovery. The recognition highlights the department’s commitment to advancing neurological rehabilitation and improving patient outcomes.
Dr. Sugasri Sureshkumar further contributed to the conference as an Editor and Author of the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Physiotherapy in Paediatric Conditions and as a Keynote Speaker at the focused symposium, “Stroke Rehab 360°: Restoring Lives, Redefining Recovery.” Her presentation on “Perceptual Deficits’ Influence on Stroke Rehabilitation” emphasised the importance of early identification and intervention to improve functional outcomes, physical and cognitive independence, activities of daily living, and quality of life.
The interactive session was well received by the participants and underscored the importance of comprehensive, evidence-based approaches in achieving early and meaningful recovery in stroke rehabilitation. The conference provided a valuable platform for sharing expertise, recognising professional excellence, and advancing the field of physiotherapy.
