AMCON Organizes Three-Day Anti-Ragging Awareness Mahotsav 5

The Anti-Ragging Committee of Arulmigu Meenakshi College of Nursing (AMCON) organized a three-day Anti-Ragging Awareness Mahotsav from 12th to 14th August 2025 with the objective of educating students about the harmful consequences of ragging and strengthening their commitment to maintaining a ragging-free campus.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across all batches, who expressed solidarity through an awareness rally and by holding placards and selfies with the message “Say No to Ragging.”

The first day commenced with a welcome address, followed by a special address delivered by Dr. Victor Devasirvadam, Chairperson of the Anti-Ragging Committee, who emphasized the collective responsibility of students in upholding campus discipline. Mr. Dinesh Kumar R., Nodal Officer of the Anti-Ragging Committee (AMCON), elaborated on the structure, objectives, and functioning of the committee. The session was further enriched by a guest lecture by Ms. Prabhavathi, Sub-Inspector of Police, Kanchipuram, who highlighted the legal implications of ragging and the stringent measures enforced under anti-ragging laws to safeguard student welfare. As a mark of commitment, all students collectively took the anti-ragging pledge and submitted their online anti-ragging affidavit forms.

The second day focused on creative expression and student engagement. Participants actively took part in essay writing and poster-making competitions on anti-ragging themes. A highlight of the day was an anti-ragging skit by final-year students, which depicted the emotional and social consequences of ragging and reinforced the importance of a healthy, inclusive campus environment. Students also shared personal experiences of a supportive and ragging-free atmosphere at AMCON.

The third day encouraged critical thinking and reflection. It began with a slogan writing competition, spreading strong anti-ragging messages, followed by the screening of documentary films showcasing real-life stories and the significance of legal frameworks in combating ragging. A panel discussion on the topic “Are existing anti-ragging laws and regulations sufficient to eradicate ragging in educational institutions?” provided students with an opportunity to express their views, exchange ideas, and gain insights into the effectiveness of current policies.

The Mahotsav concluded with the distribution of prizes to winners of various competitions. With the active participation of 388 students, the program successfully instilled a strong sense of responsibility, deepened awareness of anti-ragging laws, and reinforced the role of students in fostering discipline, dignity, respect, and unity within the institution.
