Celebrating World Down Syndrome Day and World Poetry Day

The Faculty of Occupational Therapy, MAHER celebrated World Down Syndrome Day and World Poetry Day on 21st March 2025.

World Down Syndrome Day focused on raising awareness for the rights and well-being of individuals with Down Syndrome. This year’s theme, “Improve Our Support Systems,” emphasized enhancing support structures for individuals with Down Syndrome to lead fulfilling, autonomous lives. The event featured a poem delivered by Ms. Krithika, a third-year BOT student, and a talk by final-year BOT students discussing Occupational Therapy’s role in Down Syndrome and recent advancements in the field.

World Poetry Day, on the other hand, highlighted the power of poetry as a medium of expression and creativity. The program began with a speech by the Principal, underscoring the cultural and social significance of poetry. This was followed by a poem performance by Ms. Krithika, celebrating the art of poetry and its impact on communication and self-expression.

Together, these celebrations fostered awareness, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the significance of both art and support systems in enhancing lives.
