The Faculty of Occupational Therapy (FOT), MAHER organized an insightful Expert Talk on “Quality Research Practices in Occupational Therapy” on 14th July 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The session saw the enthusiastic participation of 150 students and 6 faculty members, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to fostering research-oriented learning.
The event began with a warm welcome address by Prof. Deepa Sundareswaran, Principal, FOT. Prof. Sundareswaran and Dr. Lilly Christopher, Dean, Student Affairs, MAHER, jointly felicitated the guest speaker. Dr. Lilly Christopher also delivered a special address, highlighting the growing significance of research-driven practice in occupational therapy.
The highlight of the day was the guest lecture by Dr. Preethy S. Samuel, Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy, Department of Healthcare Sciences, Wayne State University, Michigan, USA. Dr. Samuel delivered a compelling session on research ethics, formulating relevant research questions, and the critical importance of quality research in both clinical and academic environments. Her talk was enriched with real-world examples from community-based projects and studies on Family Quality of Life, which deeply resonated with the audience.
A lively Q&A session followed, where students actively engaged with the speaker, asking thoughtful questions and sharing perspectives. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mrs. Leala Joyce Rani R.
The session ignited a renewed enthusiasm among students and faculty for evidence-based practice and research in occupational therapy.
