Meenakshi College of Nursing, in collaboration with the MOHAN Foundation, organized an awareness programme on “Organ Donation” on 29th April 2026 at 12:00 Noon in the Conference Hall, MCON.
The programme aimed to educate students on the significance of organ donation and to provide insights into grief counselling for family members involved in transplant decision-making.
Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh, Marketing Coordinator, introduced the MOHAN Foundation and elaborated on the various organs that can be donated, along with different types of donation including living donation, brain death donation, and circulatory death donation.
Mrs. Arshiya, Senior Project Executive, delivered an informative session explaining the concept of organ donation, types of donors, the distinction between coma and brain death, legal aspects, the pledging process, and common myths and facts related to organ transplantation. Students actively participated in the interactive session by raising questions regarding patient identification, transplant procedures, and donor allocation processes, which were clearly addressed by the resource persons.
The programme also featured a session on family and grief counselling by Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh, who discussed the stages of grief and emphasized the critical role of nurses in transplant coordination and supporting families during emotionally challenging situations.
As a follow-up initiative, 10 students enrolled in the “Angels of Change” course to become advocates for organ donation awareness and community education.This academic engagement enhanced students’ understanding of organ donation, transplant ethics, and grief counselling, while strengthening their communication skills, empathy, and awareness of community healthcare advocacy.
