Meenakshi College of Nursing (MCON) successfully conducted an Anti-Ragging Awareness and Sensitization Programme on UGC Norms on 2nd February 2026, with the aim of educating students and faculty about the UGC Regulations on Prevention of Ragging in Higher Educational Institutions and reinforcing the institution’s strict zero-tolerance policy towards ragging.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Kavitha M, Nodal Officer, MCON, who warmly welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, and students. In her address, she highlighted the importance of maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment and reiterated the institution’s commitment to adhering to UGC and Supreme Court guidelines on anti-ragging measures.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Fabiola M. Dhanaraj, who offered an insightful and impactful perspective on ragging as a serious social and institutional issue. She elaborated on the psychological, emotional, and academic consequences of ragging and emphasized the collective responsibility of administrators, faculty, and students in preventing such practices. Her address strongly reinforced the values of ethical conduct, mutual respect, and professional behaviour among nursing students as future healthcare professionals.
Following the keynote session, Dr. Kavitha M provided a comprehensive explanation of the UGC Anti-Ragging Regulations. She explained the definition and various forms of ragging, the legal provisions and punitive actions prescribed under UGC norms, and the roles and responsibilities of students, faculty members, and Anti-Ragging Committees. She also outlined the procedures for lodging complaints and informed participants about the UGC Anti-Ragging Helpline and the requirement of online affidavit submission. This sensitization session helped students gain a clear understanding of their rights and responsibilities and encouraged them to report incidents without fear.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Dhivya, B.Sc. (N) I Year, who expressed sincere gratitude to the keynote speaker, the organizing committee, faculty members, and students for their active participation and cooperation. Overall, the Anti-Ragging Awareness Programme was highly informative and effective in fostering awareness of UGC norms and strengthening a culture of safety, respect, and discipline, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to maintaining a ragging-free academic environment.
