Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy Promotes Sustainability with E-Waste Awareness and Collection Drive on World Earth Day

On the occasion of World Earth Day 2026, the NSS Unit of Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy (MCOT), MAHER, organized an E-Waste Awareness Session and Collection Drive on 22nd April 2026 at the MCOT campus in collaboration with Clean to Green (NGO).

The programme was coordinated by Ms. Melba Jesuran A and Ms. Leala Joyce Rani, Assistant Professors, MCOT. The event commenced with a welcome address by the Principal, Prof. Deepa Sundareswaran.

Ms. Jenifer Caroline from Clean to Green delivered an informative session on the environmental impact of improper e-waste disposal and emphasized the importance of adopting responsible waste management practices. She also introduced the Clean to Green mobile application and explained its role in promoting eco-friendly disposal methods.

As part of the initiative, an E-Waste Collection Bin was installed within the MAHER campus, encouraging students to responsibly dispose of electronic waste such as used batteries, chargers, cables, and non-functional gadgets. The collection drive was planned to continue for a week, enabling wider student participation.

Students actively contributed to the initiative and were awarded e-certificates in recognition of their involvement. The programme concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation, reinforcing awareness on environmental sustainability and responsible disposal practices.

This field engagement enhanced students’ understanding of e-waste management, environmental protection, and sustainable practices, while encouraging responsible behavior towards ecological conservation.
