Dr. Sureka Varalakshmi V, Dean Research, is a basic medical scientist with a Doctorate in Physiology from St. John’s Medical College, RGUHS, Bangalore. She has 22 years of research and teaching experience in various medical colleges across South India. Her research experience includes conducting 24 hours studies on the requirement of essential amino acids in chronically undernourished and well-nourished populations. She has coordinated various research projects on core areas of Metabolic syndrome, Prehypertension, Stress and Anxiety. She has guided students towards ICMR research grants and non-Governmental fellowships. As Journal club and Central Research Lab Coordinator for academic institutions involved in health care, she was involved in organising international conferences and numerous workshops to provide hands-on training to faculty members on article writing and publication. Dr. Sureka has 30 research publications indexed in Scopus and Pubmed. She also serves as an editorial board member for Scopus indexed journals in Physiology. She has guided 7 Ph.D. students so far. She has bagged numerous awards, including two best paper awards in National conferences. She was also an invited speaker for two national conferences and a resource person and subject expert for various research methodology courses. In her present assignment as Dean Research in MAHER, Dr. V. Sureka is involved in co-ordinating Ph.D. programmes, research projects, publications and patents.
