The Department of Periodontics, Meenakshi Ammal Dental College & Hospital, Chennai, successfully organized a Guest Lecture and Interactive Workshop titled “Strategies of Research to Identify Genetic Risk Factors and their Impact on Disease Onset and Progression” on 7 January 2026 at 9:15 a.m. in Lecture Hall 5. The academic programme marked a significant beginning to the department’s scholarly activities for the year and served as the first Perio Interactive Program of 2026.
The session was led by Dr. Jaideep Mahendra, Professor and Head, Department of Periodontics, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and postgraduate students. The distinguished resource person, Dr. rer. nat. Avneesh Chopra, Senior Scientist in Dental Research, Berlin, Germany, delivered an engaging and insightful lecture focusing on advanced research strategies to identify genetic risk factors and their influence on the onset and progression of periodontal diseases.
Dr. Chopra elaborated on contemporary molecular and genetic research approaches, emphasizing their relevance in understanding disease susceptibility and improving clinical outcomes. The interactive format of the session encouraged active dialogue, critical questioning, and meaningful academic discussions, thereby strengthening the research orientation and analytical skills of the participants.
