MMCHRI Explores Renal Science and Dialysis Care through CME Programme “Renal Insights – From Homeostasis to Hemodialysis”

The Department of Physiology, Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute (MMCHRI), organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “Renal Insights – From Homeostasis to Hemodialysis” on 5th May 2026.

The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the kuthu vilakku, followed by a welcome address delivered by Prof. Dr. R. Muthulakshmi. The inaugural address was given by Prof. Dr. K. V. Rajasekhar, Dean, MMCHRI, who emphasized the importance of understanding renal physiology and kidney-related disorders in clinical practice.

The scientific sessions featured expert-led presentations focusing on various aspects of renal physiology and nephrology care. In the session “Kidney: The Body’s Silent Regulator,” Prof. Dr. R. Muthulakshmi explained the crucial role of the kidneys in maintaining physiological homeostasis.Dr. K. Venkataraman, Consultant Nephrologist, KVR Kidney & Diabetic Centre, Vellore, delivered a session titled “The Kidney Struggles,” highlighting the clinical challenges associated with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).Further, Dr. K. Senthil Kumar, Associate Professor of Nephrology, MMCHRI, presented an informative talk on “Understanding Dialysis,” focusing on the practical and clinical aspects of hemodialysis and patient care.

A special highlight of the programme was the interactive session “Renal Odyssey,” which incorporated gamification techniques to actively engage undergraduate and postgraduate students, making the learning process both enjoyable and academically enriching. This academic engagement enhanced participants’ understanding of renal physiology, nephrology care, and dialysis management, while promoting interactive learning and clinical application of theoretical concepts.
