Meenakshi College of Nursing, in collaboration with the MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness programme on “Organ Donation” on 29th April 2026 at 10:30 AM in Kozhumanivakkam, Chennai.
The programme aimed to educate the public about organ donation, encourage voluntary organ pledging, and address common misconceptions related to organ and tissue donation.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Karpagam, B.Sc. Nursing III Year student, MCON. Dr. Fabiola M. Dhanaraj, Principal, MCON, delivered the keynote address emphasizing that organ donation has the power to save multiple lives and highlighting the social responsibility associated with it.
As part of the awareness initiative, students presented a Villupattu performance creatively conveying the importance of body organs and the various ways organ donation can help individuals in need. The cultural presentation effectively engaged the audience and enhanced community understanding of the topic.
Mrs. Kavitha from the MOHAN Foundation delivered an informative session explaining the different types of organ donation, including living donation, brain death donation, and circulatory death donation. She elaborated on organs and tissues that can be donated and clarified doubts raised by the public regarding donation procedures and eligibility.
The session witnessed active participation, particularly from women attendees who were eager to learn about organ donation and related healthcare practices. Pamphlets on organ donation were distributed by the MOHAN Foundation to further strengthen public awareness. Interactive questions were also conducted, and prizes were distributed to encourage participation and engagement.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Madhudharshini, B.Sc. Nursing III Year student, MCON. A total of 38 members of the public benefited from the awareness programme.
This community engagement enhanced students’ communication skills, public health awareness, and understanding of organ donation advocacy, while promoting social responsibility and healthcare education among the public.
