Prof. Dr. Mahesh Kumar, MPT, Ph.D., Professor and Head, Department of Geriatric Physiotherapy, Meenakshi College of Physiotherapy (MCPT), MAHER, served as the Resource Person for the World Asthma Day 2026 programme organized by the School of Physiotherapy, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan University, Tiruchirappalli, on 29th May 2026.
During the programme, Dr. Mahesh Kumar delivered an informative session highlighting the importance of asthma awareness, early recognition of symptoms, preventive strategies, and the role of physiotherapy in respiratory rehabilitation. The session focused on evidence-based approaches to asthma management, including airway clearance techniques, breathing retraining, exercise prescription, and patient education aimed at improving respiratory health and quality of life.
The programme featured interactive discussions that enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary asthma management and the significant contribution of physiotherapists in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of individuals with respiratory conditions.
Faculty members, students, and healthcare professionals actively participated in the event, making the session engaging and academically enriching. The programme was well appreciated by the more than 100 participants who attended.
The session contributed to enhancing professional knowledge and awareness in the field of cardio-respiratory physiotherapy, while highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in respiratory healthcare.
