As part of the Founder’s Day Celebration, Meenakshi College of Physiotherapy (MCPT), in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS), organized a Geriatric Physiotherapy Camp at Brindavan Old Age Home with the objective of promoting physical health, mobility, and awareness regarding geriatric physiotherapy among elderly individuals.
The camp witnessed the participation of approximately 50 female residents, who underwent comprehensive geriatric physiotherapy assessments. Based on individual needs, appropriate physiotherapy interventions and exercise training sessions were provided to enhance mobility, functional independence, and overall well-being.
The programme included mobility exercises, strengthening exercises, stretching techniques, posture correction, and functional activity training tailored to the specific requirements of the elderly participants. The sessions were designed to address age-related physical challenges and encourage active and healthy ageing.
The camp was organized and coordinated by Prof. Dr. Mahesh Kumar, Head, Department of Geriatric Physiotherapy, and Dr. Jayadarshini, Assistant Professor. A team of ten second-year MPT students actively participated in the camp, assisting in patient assessments, exercise demonstrations, and participant interaction. Their involvement provided valuable hands-on clinical exposure and enriched their understanding of community-based geriatric healthcare services.
The initiative was well received by the residents and successfully highlighted the importance of physiotherapy in maintaining functional independence, preventing disability, and improving the quality of life among the elderly population. The camp also reflected the institution’s commitment to community service and holistic healthcare outreach in honor of the Founder’s vision.
