Meenakshi College of Occupational Therapy (MCOT), MAHER, organized a seminar on “Contemporary Approaches in Occupational Therapy Practice in the UK and Europe” on 15th June 2026. The seminar was conducted as part of the institution’s ongoing efforts to enhance professional knowledge and expose students and faculty members to global advancements in occupational therapy practice.
The programme was held under the leadership of Prof. Deepa Sundareswaran, Principal, MCOT. It commenced with the traditional lighting of the kuthuvilakku, followed by the Welcome Address delivered by the Principal. Dr. P. Sagayaraj, Dean, Meenakshi College of Arts and Science, welcomed the guest speaker and appreciated the continuous academic initiatives undertaken by MCOT in promoting professional excellence. He also conveyed his best wishes for the successful conduct of the seminar.
The keynote session was delivered by Dr. Samita Kirve, Associate Professor and Course Director, MSc Occupational Therapy, Faculty of Life Sciences and Environment, Department of Health Studies, Royal Holloway, University of London. Drawing on her extensive academic and clinical experience, she shared valuable insights into contemporary occupational therapy practices followed in the United Kingdom and Europe, highlighting emerging trends, evidence-based interventions, and evolving models of rehabilitation.
The seminar emphasized the importance of holistic rehabilitation, professional competency, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the adoption of international best practices to improve patient outcomes. Participants gained a broader understanding of global developments in occupational therapy and the significance of lifelong learning in delivering high-quality client-centred care.
Students and faculty members actively participated in the seminar and engaged enthusiastically in the interactive discussion session, where they exchanged ideas and clarified key concepts with the resource person.
