The Department of General Medicine, Meenakshi Medical College Hospital and Research Institute (MMCHRI), organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “GI Update” on 17th June 2026 with the objective of enhancing knowledge and clinical understanding of gastrointestinal disorders and their contemporary management among healthcare professionals and postgraduate students.
The programme commenced with a Welcome Address by Prof. Dr. D. Anbarasu, Professor and Head, Department of General Medicine, MMCHRI, who highlighted the importance of staying updated with recent developments in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal diseases. The event was formally inaugurated by Prof. Dr. K. V. Rajasekhar, Dean, MMCHRI, who emphasized the significance of continuous medical education in improving patient care and clinical outcomes.
A Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. Dr. K. Boopathi, Medical Superintendent, MMCHRI, who underscored the growing burden of gastrointestinal disorders and the need for evidence-based approaches in clinical practice.
The scientific sessions featured expert lectures on a range of clinically relevant topics. Dr. Naveen Chandar A. presented an insightful session on the approach to ascites, discussing diagnostic evaluation and management strategies. Dr. Mrinal Hazarika delivered a lecture on diarrhoeal diseases, highlighting current treatment protocols and preventive measures. Dr. Sowmiya Baskaran, Senior Medical Advisor, Abbott India Ltd., shared valuable insights into the recent advances in the management of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), focusing on evolving therapeutic options and patient-centered care. Dr. Bikkumalla Pranathi Gupta presented a comprehensive session on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), discussing its clinical features, diagnostic challenges, and recent developments in management.
A highlight of the programme was the panel discussion on recent advances in gastrointestinal disorders, featuring Prof. Dr. D. Anbarasu, Prof. Dr. K. Srinivasagalu, Prof. Dr. G. Anbazhagan, and Prof. Dr. P. Mohanraj. The interactive session provided participants with an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on emerging trends, clinical challenges, and best practices in gastrointestinal medicine.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. J. Jayannan, Associate Professor, Department of General Medicine, MMCHRI, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, speakers, organizing committee, and participants for their valuable contributions to the success of the CME.
The CME programme served as an excellent platform for academic enrichment, enabling participants to gain updated knowledge on gastrointestinal disorders and strengthening their clinical competencies in the field of gastroenterology.
