Central Research Laboratory at MAHER Strengthens Research Skills Through Hands-on Training Programme

The Central Research Laboratory, Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER) conducted a two-day Skill Development Programme on 2 and 3 September 2026 for postgraduate students from Thai Moogambigai Dental College. The programme was designed to provide participants with practical exposure and hands-on training in key areas of molecular biology, cell culture, protein analysis, and nanotechnology.

The programme commenced with an introductory address by Dr. N. Arunagirinathan, Dean – Research. The first day featured sessions on the Western Blot Technique, Cell Culture Technique, and fundamentals of Nanotechnology, followed by a hands-on session on Nanoparticle Synthesis. The sessions enabled participants to gain practical insights into laboratory procedures and understand the application of advanced research techniques.

The second day focused on essential molecular biology techniques, beginning with hands-on training in DNA and RNA Isolation. Participants were subsequently trained in the quantification of DNA and RNA using NanoDrop and UV Spectrophotometry, followed by practical sessions on PCR, RT-PCR, Gel Electrophoresis, and Gel Documentation. The hands-on approach enabled participants to gain greater familiarity with laboratory protocols and research workflows.

The programme was facilitated by research scientists and faculty members of the Central Research Laboratory, including Dr. D. Nalini, Dr. G. Amsaveni, Dr. M. Tharani, Dr. D. Nallusamy, and Dr. S. Sivamalar. The sessions effectively integrated theoretical concepts with practical training, enabling participants to strengthen their technical proficiency and research skills.

The programme concluded with closing remarks by Dr. M. Preethi, Associate Dean – Research, marking the successful completion of the two-day training.

The programme provided participants with valuable hands-on experience, enhanced their laboratory competencies, and fostered a research-oriented approach to advanced scientific techniques.
