Inauguration of MAHER Centre for Global Health Research

With growing global health challenges like infectious disease outbreaks, the need for robust global health research is more critical than ever. To advance knowledge and develop evidence-based solutions to address global health disparities, an initiative, MAHER Centre for Global Health Research was inaugurated at MAHER main campus, KK Nagar West, Chennai on 19, February 2025 in the presence of Mrs. Jayanthi Radhakrishnan (Chancellor, MAHER), Mr. Akash Prabhakar (Pro-Chancellor, MAHER) , Dr. C. Sridhar (Vice-Chancellor, MAHER). Dr. C. Krithika (Pro-Vice-Chancellor, MAHER) and Dr. V. Sureka Varalakshmi (Registrar, MAHER). The Chief Guest for the inauguration was Dr. François Villinger, Director, New Iberia Research Centre, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, USA and special guests were Dr. Jason T. Blackard (University of Cincinnati, USA), Dr. Antony Schwartz (Duke University, USA) and Dr. Vijayakumar Velu (Emory University, USA). Dr. N. Arunagirinathan (Dean Research, MAHER), Dr. P. Balakrishnan (Chief Scientist – Infectious Diseases), Dr K. Srinivasa Galu (Medical Director), Dr. P. Mohanraj (NACO-ART Nodal Officer) and Dr. S. Sivasankari (Microbiology Professor) from Meenakshi Medical College hospital and Research Institute (MMCHRI) and a team of other research scientists participated in this event. The launch of MAHER Centre for Global Health Research at MAHER (Deemed to be University) is focussed on sustainable and inclusive partnerships and building capacity for the next generation of global health researchers.
