MCAS-MAHER Organizes Fire Safety Awareness Programme and Mock Drill

The ISO Team of Meenakshi College of Arts and Science (MCAS), MAHER, in association with the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services, organized an Awareness Programme on “Fire Safety and Mock Drill” on 24th June 2026 at the MAHER Auditorium. The programme aimed to create awareness about fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and disaster management among students and faculty members.

The programme commenced at 10.00 a.m. in the presence of Dr. P. Sagayaraj, Dean, MCAS; Dr. V. Shanthi and Dr. N. Prabhavathy Devi, Principals of both shifts, MCAS; and Dr. Roseline, Associate Dean (Extension Activities) and MAHER ISO Coordinator, along with faculty members and students.

The resource persons from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services, Chennai, included Station Officer Mu. Aariffa (Virugambakkam), Station Officer S. Selvam (Maduravoyal), Special Station Officer N. Saravanan (Virugambakkam), and the Leading Fireman. During the session, they highlighted the importance of fire prevention, emergency response, safe evacuation procedures, and the proper use of fire extinguishers during emergencies. The officers also provided valuable insights into career opportunities in the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services, explaining the eligibility criteria, recruitment process, and the vital role of youth in disaster response and public safety.

A major highlight of the programme was the live mock drill, during which the officials demonstrated fire-fighting techniques, rescue operations, and evacuation protocols, enabling participants to gain practical knowledge on handling emergency situations effectively.

Second-year students and faculty members of MCAS actively participated in the awareness programme. A quiz competition on fire safety was also conducted to reinforce the concepts discussed during the session, and the winners were presented with certificates in recognition of their performance.

The programme effectively strengthened awareness on fire safety, disaster preparedness, and emergency response, reflecting the institution’s commitment to fostering a safe and secure campus environment. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the management, officials from the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services, faculty members, coordinators, and students for their valuable contributions to the success of the programme.
