Meenakshi College of Pharmacy Observes International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026

The Anti-Drug Committee of Meenakshi College of Pharmacy (MCOP) organized an Awareness Programme on 25th June 2026 in observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Held at the MCOP Seminar Hall, the programme aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse, promote preventive measures, and encourage them to lead healthy, drug-free lives. A total of 40 students participated in the programme.

The event commenced with a Welcome Address by Prof. Dr. D. Chamundeeswari, Principal, MCOP, who emphasized the growing concern of substance abuse among young people and highlighted the vital role of educational institutions in creating awareness and fostering a drug-free society.

An informative awareness session was delivered by Dr. K. Sundari, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy Practice, who discussed various forms of drug abuse, their physical, psychological, and social consequences, and the importance of making responsible lifestyle choices. She also stressed the need for collective efforts from individuals, families, educational institutions, and society to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking effectively.

As part of the observance, Pot Painting and Reels Competitions were conducted in accordance with the circular issued by MAHER. Six students participated in the Pot Painting Competition, creatively conveying anti-drug messages through their artwork. The entries were evaluated based on originality, creativity, relevance to the theme, and presentation. The Reels Competition encouraged students to spread awareness through digital media, and the participating team presented an impactful reel highlighting the dangers of drug abuse and the importance of prevention, which was appreciated by the audience.

Following the awareness session, all participants took both the online and offline Anti-Drug Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to remain drug-free and to promote awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse within the community.

Subsequently, Ms. Soundarya Kasi, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacognosy, announced the winners of the Pot Painting and Reels Competitions. The winning reel was screened for the participants, reinforcing the programme’s message through an engaging visual presentation.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to the management, resource persons, faculty members, coordinators, and students for their active participation. The observance successfully enhanced awareness about drug abuse prevention and strengthened the participants’ commitment to building a healthier, safer, and drug-free society.
