MCAS–MAHER Hosts Guest Lecture on Scopus Usage for Research and Citation Analysis

Meenakshi College of Arts and Science (MCAS), MAHER, organized a Guest Lecture on “Scopus Usage for Research and Citation Analysis” on 28th July 2026 at the Computer Lab–1. The programme was conducted to enhance participants’ understanding of the Scopus database and its vital role in academic research, scholarly publishing, and citation analysis.

The session was delivered by Dr. C. Valli Nachiyar, Dean – Publications, MAHER, who provided a comprehensive overview of Scopus, one of the world’s leading abstract and citation indexing databases for peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, books, and book chapters. She highlighted the importance of Scopus in identifying credible research publications, tracking research trends, evaluating journal quality, and enhancing the visibility and impact of scholarly work.

A live demonstration introduced participants to advanced search techniques, including keyword, author, affiliation, and subject-specific searches, as well as citation tracking. The resource person also explained key bibliometric indicators such as the h-index, CiteScore, SCImago Journal Rank (SJR), and Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP), illustrating how these metrics support journal selection, research evaluation, and publication planning.

The programme concluded with an engaging interactive discussion, during which participants sought clarification on Scopus indexing, author profiles, citation analysis, publication strategies, and journal selection. The practical insights and expert guidance provided during the session were highly appreciated by the participants.

The programme was coordinated by Mrs. E. Shalini, Department of Computer Science, and served as a valuable platform for strengthening research competencies and promoting excellence in scholarly publishing.
